Adult autism assessments
If you’ve ever felt that you experience the world a little differently – in how you think, sense, communicate, or manage daily demands – you’re not alone. Many adults seek an autism assessment after years of navigating subtle but persistent challenges, often without the language to fully understand their experiences.
I specialise in late diagnosis – supporting adults who are coming to this question for the first time, often after years of quietly wondering.
An adult autism assessment can offer clarity, validation, and a more coherent understanding of how your brain works – supporting self-knowledge, self-compassion, and informed decision-making.
I currently have availability for adult autism assessments in Sydney CBD.
Who these assessments are for
These assessments are particularly suited to adults who recognise aspects of themselves in the following experiences:
- have spent many years masking or compensating
- function well in professional or high-demand roles, yet experience ongoing strain
- feel cognitively overloaded, socially fatigued, or emotionally depleted
- have long-standing sensory sensitivities or differences
- are seeking clarity rather than a label for its own sake
Many people who pursue assessment later in life have developed sophisticated coping strategies. While these strategies can support success, they often come at a significant personal cost.
My approach
Assessments are comprehensive, strengths-based, and grounded in validated measures and in-depth clinical interview. I use an interview-based process (MIGDAS-2) designed to capture the richness and nuance of your lived experience in a respectful, conversational way.
The assessment explores areas such as:
- sensory processing and sensitivities
- social communication and interaction patterns
- masking, camouflaging, and adaptation strategies
- the impact of autistic traits on work, relationships, and daily life
Throughout the process, the focus is on understanding how you experience the world – not on fitting you into a narrow checklist.
The assessment process
The assessment process begins with an initial session, which allows us to explore your experiences in depth and consider whether a full autism assessment is the most appropriate next step. Where a full assessment is indicated, the process typically involves:
- Completion of validated assessment measures
- A comprehensive clinical interview, conducted in a conversational and collaborative way
- Detailed report writing, integrating clinical impressions and practical recommendations
- A feedback session to discuss findings, answer questions, and explore next steps
The process is flexible and responsive to individual needs, and timeframes may vary depending on presentation and assessment scope.
You will receive a detailed written report outlining diagnostic impressions and practical recommendations relevant to work, relationships, energy management, and self-advocacy.
ADHD exploration
While my primary focus is autism, ADHD traits can also be explored as part of the assessment process. This may involve screening measures or, where appropriate, a more comprehensive diagnostic assessment.
Fees
- Adult autism assessments are provided as a private service
- Fees start at $1,750, depending on the scope of assessment
- Medicare rebates do not apply
